Step 1: You have to acknowledge that you have a problem, (no matter how big or small it is) and have
a desire for the freedom Jesus can offer.
Step 2: Repentance
Turn away from
your sin and turn to God.
I was always taught that repentance meant confessing your sin, asking God's forgiveness, and
turning away from it forever.
1 John 1:7b "and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses
us from all sin."
1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteuosness"
If your sin has hurt people, go to those people and make it
right. Even if it's a simple apology.
Step 3: Get Satan out of your life.
You, yourself have no power over Satan. However, Jesus Christ
living in you has power over the devil. When Jesus takes over, His blood and the power of His name "cover" you. Satan cannot
return (unless you give in to his influences).
Matt. 4:10a "Then Jesus said to gim,"Away with you,Satan!..."
Step 4: Ask Jesus to totally take over the areas of your life
that Satan once controlled. Ask Jesus to show you the door to freedom.
1 Cor.10:13 "No temptation has overtaken you except such is
as common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation
will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
If you find yourself in a situation where the temptation of
your addiction is great, remember that He always provides you a way out. Look for it, whatever opportunity Jesus provides
you----RUN.
Step 5: Walk in the Lord
Galations 5:16 "I say then; walk in the Spirit and you shall
not fulfill the lust of the flesh."
If you are walking with Jesus and living to glorify Him, you
won't want to be around the people or places you used to . Those things will no longer appeal to you. PRAISE GOD!!!
Step 6: Give God the glory for your new found freedom.
Praise God for your Freedom Thru Christ. Give Him the glory
for the battle you have just won through the power of His name!!!!!
You will still be tempted at times. As an addict in recovery,
your best bet is to simplysay a little prayer:
"Satan I bind you by the power of the blood of Jesus Christ
my Lord, and I rebuke you back to hell where you belong. Go away, leave me alone, I want no part of your lies. In the name
of Jesus. Amen."
